Soirée Dansante

Soirée Dansante was founded in 1992 by Tue and Teis Dyekjær, Anders Haarbo, Lars Knudsen and Claus Møller. The team took over another team called Sensational Six, which among other players consisted of Anders Haarbo and Asger Kring, and thereby started in second division of the Danish Backgammon Team Tournament. Back in 1992 the DBGF team tournament consisted of three divisions.

The first year Soirée Dansante advanced to the first division, by becoming second in the division and winning a draw, together with winner of the division named Klaps. The following year Soirée Dansante continued the beatings and become an outstanding winner, and for the 2nd year in a row advancing again, this time to the Elite division. We left Team Klaps in 1st Division and it took them several years to advance to the elite division.

In the season 1997 - 1998 Soirée Dansante finished 3rd in the Elite Division. But in 2000 we had a terrible season and was demoted to 1st division again. After 5 years in 1st division we made it back to the Elite Division and took home the championship in 2009

Historically the best night ever for Soirée Dansante was in 1993. We were taking on Team Klaps at our homefield. Team Klaps didn’t show up and Soirée was having a jolly good time hence Team Klaps taking penalty points every 5th minute. However the amusement came to a sudden stop when Team Klaps phoned us informing us that the match was scheduled to be played on their homefield and not ours ! Ouch ! Off we went in a cap to Café Lazlo. Trailing 3 – 0 on penalty points. (By new rules we would have been trailing with 6 penalty points.) This didn’t stop Soirée from beating Team Klaps 4 – 0 !!

The name Soirée Dansante, is the common French expression for an evening party with dance (the Danish word for fanning on the bar), so this is what we would like our opponents to do, dancing on the bar.

The ambition of the team is :
Beating Team Klaps every time and become a member of Guinness Book of Records, for being the luckiest team ever.
